The combined bets
The combined bets' principle is to make a single bet on the outcomes of more than one match. If the bet is a winner, the gains get multiplied.
There are lots of combined bet types; one may combine two, three or even more different matches, for which, as an option, a certain range of wrong outcomes is accepted.
The double bet :
The bet is made on the outcomes of two matches. The odds equals the outcome of multiplying the odds of each match one by the other. If each outcome is right, the combined bet is a winner.
For example, by betting on the victory of PSG (odds 1.3) against OM, and on the victory of Lyon (odds 1.2) against Lille, the resulting odds of the bet is 1.2 x 1.3 = 1.56.
By betting 100 euros as for this double bet, the potential gain is 156 euros if both PSG and Lyon are winners.
The triple bet :
The bet is made on the outcomes of three matches. All the three outcomes must be right for the bet to be a winner.
The triple bet is then more risky than the double one, but the gains it may bring are higher, because now all the three odds get multiplied. Generally, the triple bets are made on favorite teams : this allows a real chance of winning and thus increasing the gains.
Accumulator bet :
The accumulator bet is a combined bet allowing a gain beginning from X right outcomes ("parts") out of Y bets.
In fact, a double bet is an accumulator bet of 2 " parts " out of 2 (and a triple bet is an accumulator bet of 3 " parts " out of 3) : to get the winning combined bet, you have to have all the outcomes right.
But it is possible to keep a safety margin, for example by making a 4 out of 5 accumulator bet : you must have 4 right outcomes out of the 5 for getting a certain gain. A lot of bookmakers launch such accumulator bets, favoring most of the time the 2 out of 4 (the "2/4 system") or the 4 out of 5 (the "4/5 system"). For a accumulator bet, the total stake equals the stake of each possible double combination multiplied by the number of combinations: for the "2/4 system", there are 6 possible double combinations, so the initial stake is multiplied by 6.
