Betting on a single match
The simple bet is the classical bet :
You bet on the victory of a player or of a team for a given match (or on the tie situation, if such a thing exists). In the case of a PSG-OM football match in the Championship, three simple bets are possible (1X2): PSG wins (1), draw (X), OM wins (2). Only one of the three bets will be the winning one and will bring back the stake multiplied by the odds. The other two bets will be lost.
The Double Chance bet :
Here you bet on two possible outcomes instead of betting on only one: thus, you have more chances to win, but this implies a higher stake.
The handicap bet (Spread bet) :
In a given match, if one of the teams is believed to be weaker, that team can be given a certain number of goals as an advantage: it is said that the most-likely winner plays with a handicap, because the advantage will be added to the score of the weakest team at the end of the game, and it evens out the performance of the two teams. The higher the advantage, the higher the chances of a winning bet! In fact, handicap bets allow some bookmakers to set equal odds for both teams. This way, two teams can have for instance the same odds of 1.9, but the favorite team will have a handicap of 2 goals. As an example, if PSG has a handicap of 1 goal (OM starts with an advantage of 1 goal, "OM+1") and :
- you bet on PSG : you win only if PSG wins by at least 2 goals ahead
- you bet on a tie match : you win only if PSG wins by 1 goal
- you bet on the victory of OM : you win only if OM wins or if the outcome is a tie match
- the handicap may be set as number of goals (football), as number of games (tennis) or as points (basket-ball, base-ball etc.)
The Asian handicap bet (no draw bet) :
The difference between the Asian handicap and the traditional one is that the Asian handicap is set in such a way that a tied match is impossible. For this, it is enough to set handicaps "with a point" : for football, a handicap of 1.5 goals for example.
Bet on the score :
The bet is made on the score of a match (number of points or goals for each team).
The "Over / Under" bet :
This bet involves predicting the total number of goals scored by a team or the total number of goals scored during a match. You can bet on the number of goals being under or over a threshold set by the bookmaker. For example, in football this threshold is generally set to 2.5 goals. So, a bet "Under 2.5" wins if the match totals less 3 goals, and a bet " Over 2.5 " only wins starting from three goals up.
Bet on special events :
Some bookmakers launch bets on the number of touchlines or corners for football, or on the number of games in a tennis match, the match duration or the number of aces for tennis etc. It is frequently possible to bet on the score at break time (or after a certain number of minutes).
